Michail Vouzounerakis
Born in Heraklion (Crete, Greece) in 1980, Michail Vouzounerakis is trying -thought his sculptures- to depict the modern social, cultural reality echoing at the same time the minimalistic values of the abstract art of the early 20th Century.
After finishing his basic education in Ierapetra (Crete, Greece) -where he became familiar to the art of marble in his childhood- he studied sculpture in the School of Fine Arts in Tinos (Panormos) from 1998 up to 2001.
There he was taught the art of sculpture by Ioannis Maniatakos, the art of marble by Giorgos Skylakos, the art of painting by Dimitris Bezas and the architectural design by Ioanna Roukouni-Maniatakou. During his three-year studies in Tinos,
he was awarded three times by the Aegean & Cyclades Ministry for his performance in marble sculpture.
From the moment he graduated until today he has a prominent activity in the field of exhibitions, presenting -since 2004- his work in important art galleries in Greece.
At the same time, from 2011 he participates in a regular base in international sculpture symposia representing Greece in Russia, Rumania, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Brazil and India.
Furthermore, from 2012 he is an official member of the Union of Artists of North Greece (S.K.E.T.B.E.) and from 2013 he is a cooperator in Greek Marble Initiative contributing
in the organization of local sculpture symposia. Today he lives and works in Ierapetra and abroad, whereas a large number of his pieces of art can be found in private collections inside and outside of the national borders.
